Happy New Year!
‘Algarve host 150 events in January’ I just read at the front page of the Algarve Resident…who think January is a dull and boring month in the Algarve, is completely wrong. Today it is 3 January, and up until today I had every day breakfast and lunch in the sun! Lovely temperatures, and plenty to do in January in the Algarve. Music, art, gastronomy, a variety of cultural events in January. Algarve Housing like to share with you a few events in the Algarve for this month!

Film: Something’s Got To Give by George Cukor (Short film with sound)
US, 1962, unfinished film, 37’
Something’s Got to Give was the last film to star Marylin Monroe, who died during filming. Just 37 minutes of footage was shot, and the following year the producer decided to redo the project, with different actors and give it another title (My Favorite Wife).
Film: “Três Dias sem Deus” (Three Days without God) by Bárbara Virgínia
Portugal, 1945, partially lost film, 22’
Três Dias sem Deus (Three Days without God) was the first feature film by a Portuguese woman, Barbara Virginia, and was chosen for the first edition of the Cannes Film Festival. Much of the material from this film was lost.
Film: O Fado (Fado) by Maurice Mauriaud
Portugal, 1924, silent film, 21’
O Fado is a short film made in Portugal by a French director.
Disengaged women, mismatched passions and gothic environments are the opening scenes for the musical encounter between classical music, jazz and fado, with the artists Filipe Raposo, Rita Maria and Ricardo Ribeiro.

Cataplay show
A combination of gastronomy (cataplana), theatre, music and dance. A unique event in the Algarve.

The recipe for a good CATAPLAY is: 2 people, 5 cloves of garlic, 1 disagreement, several sounds, 2 points of view and 1 personal touch.
This is the synopsis of the show, whose motto is a reflection on the origins of the cataplana dish, one of the world’s most mysterious and unique tools. At the end of the show, there is cataplana tasting made by Tertulia Algarvia, accompanied by a drink (wine or juice).

Urban Art Experience
Where: Lagos- Antiga Cadeiade Lagos
Time: 10-12 am and 3-5 pm

Discover Lagos with Urban Art and create your own work!
From an emblematic historical building, once a place of repression (the jail) and today a space of cultural and artistic experimentation, we embark on a journey of discovery of Lagos’ happening urban art scene. Through a guided tour of the works of some of the most representative artists on the contemporary panorama of urban art, the participant is invited to discover possible messages implied in the murals of this canvas-city, while looking for other particularities revealing its cultural, historical and artistic importance. The program integrates a “Stencil Experience” activity, led by a guest artist. It includes all the necessary materials and participants are invited to keep the final product of their creative endeavours.
