Summer is a synonym for beach days, a relaxed lifestyle, and family time — but it is also a moment to enjoy outdoor events, whether you’re a fan of music, gastronomy, sports, or local traditions. Let’s take a look at some of our favorite ones!
JULY
Afro Nation
Praia da Rocha, in Portimão, is once again the stage of the Afro Nation Festival, whose lineup includes Megan Thee Stallion, Chris Brown, Wizkid, and Burna Boy. The Afro Nation took place for the first time in Praia da Rocha in 2019, welcoming more than 25 thousand people, mainly from the United Kingdom. In 2020 and 2021 the festival did not take place, due to restrictions imposed due to the covid-19 pandemic. The 2nd edition of the festival starts on July 1st.
Festival MED
The 18th MED Festival will be happening between 1st and 3rd July, in Loulé’s Historic Centre. It brings back artistic multiculturality, especially world music, but also other cultural events, such as Cinema, Theatre, Plastic Arts, Gastronomy, and Crafts.
Rolling Loud
The biggest hip-hop festival in the world takes place in Portugal in 2022, in Praia da Rocha. This event, hugely successful in the United States, takes place in Europe for the first time, with the participation of established names in the world hip-hop scene, among others. We highlight A$AP Rocky, J Cole, Future, and Skepta. From 6 to 8 July.
“Life…Once Upon a Time”
Dance Show performed by the students of the Gwen Morris Ballet Studio interpreting various stages of our lives. The school, with more than 40 years of existence, certifies its students by the Royal Academy of Dance, recognized in 84 countries. From 7 to 9 July, in Centro Cultural de Lagos.
Música Sacra de Lagoa
The Group Ideias do Levante, in partnership with the Municipality of Lagoa, is responsible for the second edition of the Festival of Sacred Music of Lagoa, with the aim of promoting the religious artistic heritage of the region. decentralize concert venues, and promote religious spaces, artists, instruments, and works by Portuguese and foreign composers. From 9 to 30 July.
Concentração Motard de Faro
This year marks the return of this event, after two cancellations due to the pandemic. The british band Sisters of Mercy, the Danish D-A-D, and the Xutos e Pontapés are three of the main names on the lineup of the 40th International Motorcycle Rally, which takes place from 14 to 17 July, in Faro. In addition to the shows, the Concentration will end with the traditional parade through the streets of Faro.
ESTAR Festival
From 20 to 23 of July, ESTAR will promote culture and entertainment in Vila do Bispo, for visitors, tourists, and residents, following an itinerant route among unique public spaces. With free access, the event will present several companies from Portugal and Spain, on its 8th edition.
AUGUST
Reach for the Stars
Continuing the success of previous gastronomic events held at the resort, under the theme ‘Reach for the Stars’, a series of fine dining-themed dinners and events will be part of the 30th-anniversary celebration of the resort.

Festival da Sardinha
The Sardine Festival returns from the 3rd to the 7th of August, in Portimão, and the musical lineup includes names such as David Fonseca, João Leote with Marisa Liz, Bárbara Tinoco, and Wet Bed Gang. After two years, in which the event had to be canceled due to Covid-19, the smells and flavors of grilled sardines will return to the riverside area of Portimão. From 3rd to 7th August.
Festival do Marisco de Olhão
For over 30 years, the Olhão Seafood Festival is considered one of the most popular summer events on the Algarve coast. Throughout the 6 days, you will be able to try different types of seafood, mostly from Ria Formosa, in the dozens of restaurants that come together in Jardim do Pescador Olhanense, in the center of Olhão. The perfect program to end the day, on your way back from the beach. The event takes place from 10 to 15 August.
Fatacil
FATACIL – Craft, Tourism, Agriculture, Commerce, and Industry fair of Lagoa was born in 1980, with the 1st Regional Fair of Lagoa, considered a pioneering initiative in the level of business events in the Algarve, in a period in which Tourism began to be the main economic engine of the region. The event will take place from 19 to 28 August.
FolkFaro
During 9 days, groups from 7 countries, with a total of more than 300 participants, paint the Algarve region with the colors of their traditions. The event organization is in charge of “Grupo Folclórico de Faro” (Faro Folk Dance Group) supported by the Town Hall of Faro and other public institutions of the Algarve Region, and also with the sponsorship of local companies. From 20 to 28 of August.
Banho 29
Every year, the Municipality of Lagos promotes an event with music and beach entertainment, snacks, a competition for old bathing suits, and the mandatory night bath to revive the tradition of BATH 29. According to popular tradition, on the 29th of August, the Devil was on the loose. Bathing in the sea had the power of purifying the souls of the inhabitants of the interior Algarve, who on that day traveled from their villages to the coastal line. It takes place every 29th of August.
