Sardine Festival
August in the Algarve? Do not miss the Satdine Festival!!! Sardines have been a part of the tradition and culture of the Algarve for many years and this little fish has remained a firm favourite with locals and visitors to the region – grilled to perfection over charcoal and eaten with traditional Portuguese bread – delicious!
Most restaurants in the Algarve will have sardines on the menu but the best time to eat sardines is in August, during the annual Sardine Festival in Portimao
This year the festival opens on 1st August and runs until 5th. If you want to sample local sardines, this is the place. The sardines are freshly caught and at their best at this time of the year.
You’ll find grilled sardines, served with bread, for sale along the riverfront. Or you can dine at one of the events associated traditional restaurants.
It’s always a lively occasion with live music, entertainment and a fantastic summer vibe!

Enjoy dinner and a fantastic show at NoSoloÁgua, with great performers, right on the edge of the ocean at Marina de Praia da Rocha.
The No Solo Agua Summer Shows are renowned for their amazing dancers, performers and singers, and with a soundtrack made up of some of the best hits and music memories.

Cruise at sunset aboard the Ophelia, visit the Benagil sea cave and enjoy a BBQ on the beach at sunset. With live music and spectacular scenery.
Board the Ophelia catamaran for a summer sunset cruise along the coast. Departing from Portimao, the Ophelia cruises past Ferragudo and towards the picturesque outcrop at Senhora da Rocha. Small boats take you to explore the caves along the coast, including the famous Benagil cave. Don’t forget your camera – lots of photo opportunities here!
Then come ashore at a secluded beach where the crew will serve you up a tasty BBQ (bread, salad, mixed grill, fruit of the season) and enjoy the open bar (sangria, red or white wine, water and orange squash). There is live music on the beach during the BBQ.
Every Tuesday and Thursday from 5pm to 10pm approx.
Price €49 per adult, €24.50 for children aged 5 – 11 years.

10-13 August
Festa dos Pescadores, Santa Luzia (near Tavira).
The village Santa Luzia is a fishermans village, honours the local fishermen by throwing a big party. Ofcourse you will find lots of fresh fish, but there also will be live music, religious processions, boat regattas and traditional games. If you like the real Algarve, and want to enjoy local traditions of the Algarve, this is it!
Festival de Marisco, Olhao
A huge music and food festival in Olhao, with live bands performing on a large stage, and the main food is all sort of clams like traditional cataplana. Every night will be closed with fireworks.
Fatacil Lagoa
Fatacil is the largest general fair in the Algarve and one of the largest in the country, with a wide range of goods and local produce for sale, great food to eat, kids entertainment and live shows every day.
The fair has been running for 38 years and attracts tens of thousands of visitors from all over Portugal, the rest of Europe and beyond. The event guarantees diversity – there’s something for everyone in the Fatacil’s 50 thousand square metre exhibition area.
Showground in Lagoa and offers arts and crafts, gastronomy, agriculture, commerce and industry, and more. One of the highlights of the event is an impressive concert programme, featuring top class national artists. There’s also an excellent equestrian programme – scroll down to see it!
This year the very popular Fado singer MARIZA will be performing.

Summer Sound Portimao
Electric Music Festival on the beach, dance the night away with your feet in the sand!
Summer Sound Portimão – 2 day and night electro music festival with international DJs, in association with MTV Summer Sessions at NoSoloÁgua beach club in Portimão.
24-28 August
Pirate Festival Alvor
Party like a pirate in Alvor. Dress like a pirate, party like a pirate at the riverfront Alvor, and watch the pirate ships. There is street entertainment and storytelling.
