August in the Algarve, is a month full of entertainment, so many things to do in the Algarve. The Algarve is alive and kicking! Most beaches are crowded, you see the children’s air castles popping up everywhere, the nets to play ball games, massages at the beach, live music, happy, laughing and dancing people everywhere. Gin tonics and ‘sex’ on the beach….That is the Algarve in August!

Things to do in the Algarve in August
1-4 Afro Nation Festival Praia da Rocha
Biggest beach Festival dedicated to urban music in Europe and covers music styles from afrobeat, hip hop, R&B to dancehall.
7-11 Festival da Sardinha Portimao
Between August 7 and 11, the town will be hosting the 25th Sardine Festival which sees local restaurants serving the traditional char-grilled sardines.
Sardines have a special place in the heart of the people of Portimão. For decades, the fish has been celebrated during summertime thanks to this festival.
This year, seven restaurants are taking part: À Ravessa, Casa Bica, Forte e Feio, O Meco, Retiro do Peixe Assado, Ú Venâncio and Zizá.
A day before the festival officially kicks off, several local theatre groups will team up to re-enact the unloading of a fishing boat filled with sardines.

Till 6 September, every Thursday and Frida No Solo Agua Summer Show
This year, NoSoloÁgua Portimão is celebrating five years of summer shows, with another great season of live entertainment by the ocean.
Every Thursday and Friday, from 4th July until 6th September, you can enjoy dinner and a fantastic show at NoSoloÁgua, with great performers, right on the edge of the ocean at Marina de Praia da Rocha.
There’s a new summer show theme every year and NoSoloÁgua Summer Shows are renowned for their amazing dancers, performers and singers, and with a soundtrack made up of some of the best hits and music memories.
Dance, sing – have the time of your life at this superb venue, which is
everything you dream a beach club should be!
9-14 Festival do Marisco Olhao
Another, not-to-be-missed festival in the Algarve that is all about food, is the Olhão Seafood festival, from the 9th till the 14th of August. Pile your plate high with seafood while you enjoy the live concerts. And fireworks at the end.
Olhão Seafood Festival is said to be the biggest of its kind in Portugal. For more than 30 years, every August, thousands of people have flocked to Olhão to eat their fill of seafood and enjoy live music concerts, featuring some of the best artists in Portugal.
9-18 Feira Medieval de Silves
Feira Medieval in Silves. An absolute must Festival. From the 9th till the 18th of August, the town of Silves is transformed back into its medieval version. Including stalls selling plenty of food (meat!) and drinks (beer!), beautiful handicraft, while the streets are an open stage with street musicians and actors at every corner. Each day, a part of town’s history will be played, while you can also assist a real medieval horse fight with knights and a spectacular show at the castle. The festival has grown in the last years but surprisingly retains its very relaxed atmosphere
16-25 Fatacil Lagoa
Fatacil is the largest general fair in the Algarve and one of the largest in the country, with a wide range of goods and local produce for sale, great food to eat, kids entertainment and live shows by top artists every day.
The fair is in its 39th year and continues to attract tens of thousands of visitors from all over Portugal, the rest of Europe and beyond. The event guarantees diversity – there’s something for everyone in the Fatacil’s 50 thousand square metre exhibition area.
The fair runs for 10 days – 16th until 24th August – at the Fatacil Showground in Lagoa and offers arts and crafts, gastronomy, agriculture, commerce and industry, and more. One of the highlights of the event is an impressive concert programme, featuring top-class national artists. There’s also an excellent equestrian programme.
Popular Fado artist Mariza will be returning to the FATACIL stage this year, along with other top artists such as Blaya and Matias Damásio.
