Welcome to Portugal!
The Algarve is known for being one of the best holiday destinations in Europe, with over 300 days of sunshine a year and some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. But if you’re visiting this region of Portugal outside of the high season, or even looking for other places to visit besides the beach, don’t worry, there’s plenty to do in the Algarve in winter too.
From visiting a cork factory, exploring historic towns or municipal markets, here are some of the coolest things to do in the Algarve during wintertime.
Holidays, that magic word that makes your heart sing while you dream about all the amazing things you’ll be doing, eating, visiting. Having a good rest is a big deal, sure, but don’t you just love to disconnect from your daily routines, with brand new activities that will create wonderful memories? If the answer is yes, this article was made for you.
So, Why is it so important to have the best partners — and how did we choose them?
Because spending holidays somewhere is much more than renting a good house. Is the whole experience, and how it makes you feel after you check out. We choose partners based on our personal experiences, and we bring nothing but the best to you. Yes, nothing but the best.
Curious? Get to know them below!
Did you know the first vines in the Algarve were planted twenty-three centuries ago, and that the region has excellent soil for growing vines? Until not very long ago, me neither.
The transcendent beauty of the Algarve offers much more than stunning beaches. A vibrant countryside hides breathtaking landscapes that will make you fall in love with the region. It is in the midst of these natural wonders that 2000 vineyards and almost 30 winemakers thrive in an environment with more than 300 days of sunshine a year.
In our previous post, we talked about Portuguese must-eats, when you come to Algarve. But, where to eat them? Find below a list of some gastronomic cathedrals.

Keep a social distance of 2 meters, wear face masks in a public area, and hygiene like wash your hands regularly.
On daily bases, people ask me how is it to be in the Algarve? To me, it is still heaven! The new normal does not really affect me. You can still go to the beach (plenty of sun lounges to choose from), bars and restaurants are open. Make sure you always have a face mask with you, as when you enter a restaurant, you need to wear a face mask. Once you sit down, you can take it off and enjoy the lovely food and drinks. The sunsets are still stunningly beautiful, the temperature nice, the beaches sandy, and the seawater refreshing!
In March this year, I wrote the article below, but at the same time, the coronavirus hit Europe! It was not a good idea to promote the Algarve. But it is August now, and the Algarve is safe and clean, and with respect to the new normal, we can handle Covid-19 in Portugal! Algarve Housing like to remind you why to visit the Algarve!

The coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) is a new virus for the human species, therefore we have no immunity against it. It is likely that all of us will have contact with this virus in the future.
However, it is the transmissibility that is worrisome. Only a minority of people require hospitalization and, in the most extreme cases, ventilator support (respirators). Now, if many of us get sick at the same time, there may not be resources to treat everyone.
Time for an update, time to give some answers to questions about the Coronavirus. What is the situation in Portugal and in the Algarve? Algarve Housing will do the best they can to help you!
Food for thought!
A great part of the pleasure of a holiday in Portugal is to have all the time in the world to enjoy the local food of the Algarve. Preferably accompanied by a glass of good wine. Good news: you are in the right country! Portugal has a wide variety of savoury dishes that are both influenced by the Atlantic Coast, and by the inland farmer’s food. Enough to try throughout Portuguese food during your time in the Algarve, washed away with one of the many quality wines of Portugal!
